Students understand the basic features of reading. Our program continues to build on the foundational base of the program. Students read and understand grade-level-appropriate material. They are able to describe and connect the essential ideas, arguments, and perspectives of the text by using their knowledge of text structure, organization and purpose.

Students read and respond to historically or culturally significant works of literature. They begin to find ways to clarify the ideas and makes connections between literary works.

Students write in a clear, coherent, and focused manner. The writing exhibits the student’s knowledge and proper use of the eight parts of speech.
