The over-arching spirit of the El Sobrante Christian School dress code is that of modesty and a positive Christian witness. Because of this, there are certain standards of dress that we feel will best represent our school, while still allowing students a level of individuality and personal choice. These dress standards are meant to be for the benefit of the students and the total school program. The administration of the school shall have the authority to enforce the following dress code with these standards in mind.
- Students are to dress in a neat, clean, and modest manner.
- Fad-style clothing will not be acceptable.
- Neat, clean jeans are acceptable.
- Clothing is not to be torn or frayed.
- Tight fitting clothing of any kind is not acceptable.
- Extremely loose fitting or sagging clothing is unacceptable. Clothing should be no more than one size above normal. Pants are worn at the hips, not below, and should not drag the ground.
- Short skirts and short shorts are not modest or practical for school.
- Tops should cover the midriff when arms are raised. Shoulders must be covered and fabric may not be see-through of any kind.
- Clothing meant as underwear should be worn as underwear only.
- Shoes must be worn at all times. No slip-on shoes without backs or back straps are acceptable on the elementary campus. No heels in excess of 2”. Tennis shoes are to be worn on P.E. days.
- No printed sayings on the backside of pants or shorts.
- Hair should be neatly groomed and of one natural hair color. Boys hair must not be longer than the shirt collar.
- Body piercing, other than ear piercing for girls, is not permitted. Earrings are not acceptable for boys.
- Jewelry should fit the age of the child. No large or dangerous jewelry will be allowed.
- Clothing or jewelry of any type with inappropriate words or sayings, music groups, or emblems will not be allowed.
- Make up is not acceptable in grades K-5.
The above standards are the minimum for appropriateness and modesty at El Sobrante Christian School. Keeping in mind, dressing up is always appropriate, especially on Chapel days.
