High School Dress Code

The over-arching spirit of the El Sobrante Christian School dress code is that of modesty and a positive, Christian witness. Because of this, there are certain standards of dress that we feel will best represent our school, while still allowing students a level of individuality and personal choice. This is especially true for the high school students as they set the example for younger students, and establish Christ-like standard for the future.

STANDARDS FOR ALL STUDENTS

Students are to dress in a neat, clean, and modest manner. Extreme fad-style clothing will not be acceptable. Clothing must not be torn or frayed. Hair should be neatly groomed, out of the eyes, and of one natural color. Jewelry should fit the age of the student. No overly large or distracting jewelry. Clothing or jewelry of any type with inappropriate words, sayings, graphics, or emblems will not be allowed (this includes any music group items). Body piercing (other than ear piercing for girls) is not permitted. No visible tattoos.

GIRLS DRESS CODE STANDARDS

TOPS/BLOUSES:
Sleeveless tops must be at least 3” wide over the shoulders. Blouses and tops with revealing necklines, tank tops, tube tops, and tops that do not completely cover the midriff in any posture, or are tight fitting, or plain T shirts that are commonly worn as undershirts or T shirts with graphics, slogans, and advertisements that conflicts with Christian values are unacceptable.

PANTS, SHORTS, SKIRTS:
Must not be excessively tight. Must fit so that midriff skin is covered at all times, even when sitting, bending, or reaching (**see above). Shorts or skirt hem line must be no more than 4 inches up from the back bend of the knee, when sitting.

OTHER:
Shoes must be worn at all times. No flip-flops, slippers, or heels in excess of 2 inches. No scarves or bandanas worn in any way. Hats OK for outside only. Make-up is permissible for girls, with an emphasis on moderation.

Any faculty or staff member of the school has the authority to enforce the following dress standards. If a teacher, staff member or administrator feels that a rule has been broken, they may request that the student change into appropriate clothing. They may be asked to wear their P.E. clothes, or the parent may be called to come and correct the problem.
