History of El Sobrante Christian Schools

El Sobrante Christian School began as a vision of Pastor Russell Griffin in 1970 to begin a Christian School , which would serve the El Sobrante and surrounding areas. It began small, as most new schools do, ending the first year with 24 students and 2 teachers in Kdg. thru fourth grade.

The school has had steady growth under the leadership of 4 different Principals. The facilities of ESCS have grown from the initial education building of 12 classrooms in 1971, to an expansion of 3 classrooms, restrooms, and offices in 1984, a modular 2 classroom building in 1989 and finally the addition of our 2 nd campus of 14 classrooms, gymnasium, locker rooms, lunch room, and kitchen in 1996.

In following God’s plan for ESCS we have always sought to grow within His will and His timing. Our prayer has not been “growth for growth’s sake” but to expand to meet the needs as God leads us. As Jabez prayed in I Chronicles for God to “enlarge his territory” his goal was so that he could be a blessing to others for God’s kingdom. That is our goal also. To meet the need, to be a blessing and to be excellent in doing it.
